What it is

Tadalafil is a PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitor. The active ingredient is FDA-approved in branded formulations; compounded tadalafil prepared by Orbit Health’s licensed compounding pharmacy partner differs from branded products.

How it works

PDE5 inhibition prevents the breakdown of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in vascular smooth muscle, which supports the relaxation of those tissues in response to normal nitric oxide signaling.

Who your provider may consider it for

Your Orbit Health prescriber may consider tadalafil for adult men evaluating treatment for erectile function. It is not appropriate for all patients.

What your provider will discuss with you

  • Cardiovascular history (heart disease, recent cardiac events, blood pressure)
  • Current medications, especially nitrates and certain alpha-blockers
  • Liver and kidney function
  • Vision or hearing changes you have experienced
  • Goals around daily vs. as-needed dosing

Considerations

Published literature commonly notes effects such as headache, flushing, indigestion, back pain, and nasal congestion. Tadalafil is contraindicated with nitrates and in certain cardiovascular conditions. Your prescriber will review your full history before deciding.

Regulatory note. The active ingredient in tadalafil is FDA-approved in branded formulations (such as Cialis® and Adcirca®) manufactured by other parties. Compounded tadalafil prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy partner is not the branded product and has not been individually evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or bioequivalence.

Federal regulations (FDA compounding regulations) and state medical board rules govern what your Orbit Health prescriber can lawfully prescribe to you. See our full regulatory disclosure for active state and federal regulations affecting availability.
