What it is

Vaginal estradiol cream is a localized hormone preparation of bioidentical estradiol applied topically to vaginal tissue. Local application limits systemic absorption compared with oral or transdermal HRT.

How it works

Estradiol acts at estrogen receptors in the urogenital epithelium to support tissue thickness, vascularization, and lubrication that decline with reduced endogenous estrogen.

Who your provider may consider it for

Your Orbit Health prescriber may consider vaginal estradiol for adult women experiencing genitourinary symptoms of menopause (GSM) after reviewing intake and history.

What your provider will discuss with you

  • Menopausal status and symptom pattern
  • Personal or family history of estrogen-sensitive cancers
  • History of vaginal or urinary tract conditions
  • Current medications and other hormone therapy
  • Whether you use lubricants, moisturizers, or other GSM strategies

Considerations

Published literature notes that localized vaginal estradiol generally produces low systemic levels relative to oral or transdermal HRT. Your prescriber will discuss appropriateness and monitoring.

Regulatory note. Compounded vaginal estradiol cream is not FDA-approved. FDA-approved branded vaginal estradiol products exist; compounded versions differ. Availability is subject to FDA bulk-substance status.

Federal regulations (FDA compounding regulations) and state medical board rules govern what your Orbit Health prescriber can lawfully prescribe to you. See our full regulatory disclosure for active state and federal regulations affecting availability.
