What it is
Tirzepatide is a synthetic peptide that acts as a dual agonist at the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. Both are incretin hormones the body produces naturally in response to food intake. The compounded tirzepatide available through Orbit Health is prepared by a U.S.-licensed compounding pharmacy partner and is distinct from FDA-approved branded products such as Mounjaro® and Zepbound® manufactured by Eli Lilly.
How it works
GLP-1 and GIP receptor activity influences appetite signaling in the hypothalamus, slows gastric emptying, and modulates insulin and glucagon release in response to glucose. Activating both pathways simultaneously is the mechanistic rationale studied for dual-incretin therapy.

Your Orbit Health prescriber may consider compounded tirzepatide for adults with elevated BMI or with metabolic risk factors when, after reviewing your intake and any required labs, they determine it is medically appropriate.

- Current BMI, weight history, prior weight-management approaches
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2
- History of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, or diabetic retinopathy
- Pregnancy, pregnancy plans, or breastfeeding

- Realistic expectations, lifestyle context, and follow-up cadence
Considerations
Published literature on incretin-class therapy commonly notes gastrointestinal effects (nausea, decreased appetite, constipation), particularly during dose escalation. Your prescriber will review the full risk profile, contraindications, and monitoring plan with you.
